Hey! It's Robin!

Update on the DIL Society Novel

by Robin • Thursday, March 22, 2012 • 45 comments

Good morning everyone!

I have an update on the BOOK!!! It will be going both Print and Digital very soon!! It is currently in the last stages of editing. But now Patricia is asking your advice on the cover. Above the title of the book there is a DIL sitting. Do you think she should stay or should she go?

I wish I knew had to add a pic here =( Heres the link to the books page

Lets us know what you think!!!

Although she is cute, my thought is that she should go. Would make the cover look… more sophisticated?

Hey! It's Dream! Dream said on March 22, 2012 at 2:05pm

Ick, my attempt at getting the image to appear automatically didn’t work. Ho hum.

Hey! It's blindsided! blindsided said on March 22, 2012 at 2:17pm

Thanks for the link though Dream.  :)

I like that there is an image there, I think it would blend into too many other books otherwise.  I’m not sure that image is the right one, but there should be something other than just the title, IMHO.

Although i usually agree with you dream, this time i don’t. i think i like her on the cover. I think it would look boring without it.  Or using the lady picture by the ‘archives”  logo to the right here.

wasmikeswife wasmikeswife said on March 22, 2012 at 2:23pm

oops - forgot to thank you for the link, dream. so, thanks.

Hey! It's Dream! Dream said on March 22, 2012 at 3:11pm

No need for thanks, ladies, I just wish it would have done as I asked it to <frustrated>

Got me thinking now. I think that Blind’s assessment is better than mine, it needs something, just not necessarily her :\

Quick question, are we all prepared for the influx of new members when this little site is put under the spotlight?

Hey! It's Robin! Robin said on March 22, 2012 at 3:24pm

I just want to add that the main character is Claudia a blonde woman from LA who looks like the avatar sitting on the logo.

@dream I think it can be handled =)  I may have to ask for volunteers to play big sister though to help me keep up!!! LOL!! and thank you for making the link clickable. That what happens when I try to do things before I finish my first cup of coffee!

Hey! It's Weeble! Weeble said on March 22, 2012 at 3:41pm

I like the cover, more so that I am reminded that the avatar is the main character

Hey! It's Weeble! Weeble said on March 22, 2012 at 3:42pm

*more so NOW that* sheesh I really need to stop typing in the morning LOL

Hey! It's Dream! Dream said on March 22, 2012 at 3:46pm

Well the part about her being the main character puts a different slant on it. And if this site is going to be linked to the book, then I guess it makes sense to keep the same type of artwork too.

@Robin - I’m sure there will be others too but whatever you need, just shout :)

Not sure what others think but what about adding a crazed MIL on the opposite side fuming at DIL? Just a thought.

And I love your idea of big sisters Robin

I think she should stay :)

I also like the DIL, especially if she’s the main character.
And I agree with Struggling DIL about the MIL picture on the opposite side :) Sounds like a good idea to me.

Hey! It's yodas_dil! yodas_dil said on March 22, 2012 at 5:53pm

I also like the DIL pic and think it could be better with an evil MIL (giving a look that could kill) next to her.

I like it.  I can’t wait for this to come out…I am going to ask my MIL this for christmas :)

Hey! It's CJDIL! CJDIL said on March 22, 2012 at 6:54pm

I agree with Yodas_Dil. I think a pic of an evil MIL or an unflattering pic of MIL will complement the cover .

Hey! It's Dream! Dream said on March 22, 2012 at 7:17pm

I promise I’m not just being contrary but maybe it is more positive to not show a glowering MIL on the cover? For a start it may frighten off the buyers and the poor bugger who has to do the artwork is going to have their work cut out! ;)

In reality, we all know that these woman look like perfectly normal acceptable people (most of them. OK, OK, some of them). Their outer skins do not reflect their inner ugliness.

Maybe a nod to the concept with a subtlety placed set of devil horns somewhere?

Hey! It's louise! louise said on March 22, 2012 at 7:59pm

I dunno, could the MIL be a fuming black cloud with eyes, hanging over the DIL?  I think we all could relate to that feeling of doom and gloom that we all have experienced.  Plus MIL’s everywhere couldn’t “say” it was them.

Hey! It's ZombieHunter! ZombieHunter said on March 22, 2012 at 10:12pm

I like the cover but I truly LOVE louise idea of the dark cloud I think that is hilarious!  Maybe the avatar can be holding an umbrella between her and the cloud that says DILS on it?

Hey! It's Robin! Robin said on March 23, 2012 at 2:35am

A little teaser for our Favorite Sisters!!!

Claudia turns toward Debbie, Ashley, and me for the rest of her speech.  “The mission of the Daughter-in-law Sisterhood—you’ll find we shorten it to ‘DILS’—is to protect and empower women who have sought refuge in our organization and eliminate injustices brought upon our sisters by overbearing and oftentimes cruel mothers-in-law.  Our commitment is to provide you with a safe haven where you are free to express your frustrations without being judged, blamed, or ridiculed.  Over time, you will find your own inner strength.  Until then, we are now your backbone and we will support you.”
Debbie loses it.  She puts her head on her knees and starts sobbing, crying so hard it sounds like she is drowning.  Claudia’s speech has struck a real chord with her.  Since I am sitting closest to her, I scooch over a bit and put my arm around her shoulder.  For some reason unbeknown to me, I feel totally natural in the role of her comforter.  I am usually pretty shielded when it comes to strangers, but I feel a connection with her and I want to make her feel like everything is going to okay.  Perhaps it is, because I really hope everything is going to get better now that we are part of something larger than ourselves.  My arm is still around her shoulder and as I am stroking her, I can feel her trembling subside.  I lean down towards her and ask if she is alright.  She lifts her head and her tear-stained face sports a small, tentative smile.  I gave her a little reassuring “you’re not alone” squeeze and move back over to my seat.  I glance over at Ashley, who is sitting on the other side of Debbie, and can’t help but notice she doesn’t seem the least bit concerned and appears almost bored.  Ice Queen.  I know the type.
Claudia walks over to Debbie and takes both her hands into her own.  “I swear to you on my own children that if you commit yourself to this sisterhood, your mother-in-law issues will eventually disappear.”
While her attention is focused on Debbie, I silently repeat part of Claudia’s Mission Statement in my head—the part about eliminating “injustices brought upon our sisters by overbearing and many-times cruel mothers-in-law,” and how she swore our mother-in-law problems would soon be gone.  Before today, I imagined the only way my mother-in-law problems would go away is if one of us is dead or I am divorced.  Even then, I fear the undead and I know she would find a way to come back and haunt me from her grave.  That just leaves divorce, and MIL issues seem like a tragic reason to end an otherwise storybook marriage.
Claudia continues.  “As you have just witnessed, we, the Daughter-in-Law Sisterhood, will be your strength when you don’t have the power to stand on your own.”  She pauses again and I wonder if we should applaud.  Before I begin the classic, solitary, slow clap and make an ass of myself, Claudia clears her throat and asks if we would like another glass of wine before she moves onward.

FYI I’m getting an early peak at the final copy before it goes to print and LOVING IT so far!!!!

Robin it sounds like a great read, will it be released in Australia? I’d love to get a copy, yes I think the avatar should stay on the cover.

Beyondbitter Beyondbitter said on March 23, 2012 at 5:44pm

I would just add more DILs to break the idea of one being alone. I might also add the cloud but part it with a ray of Sunshine. My only consideration with the proposed cover is that it could limit your potential audience as certain DILs may not relate to the avatar. I am sure there are people who really understand the psychology of these kinds of issues though and it would be interesting to know what they think would be the best strategy to improve/maximize reach.

Two questions:

1)  Will it be in Kindle edition, too?
2)  Where can I preorder this bad boy??  ;-)

I’m so excited that I could giggle loudly.  But I’m at work.  And my boss already thinks I’m a little nuts!

I just finished reading a pre copy and I must say I am mighty proud of our Founder Sister Patricia!! There are so many parts where I laughed and felt bad and cheered on the DIL sisters as they went on their way to find a way to make dealing with their MILS more tolerable. I cant wait till all of you get to read! Patricia has some amazing things going on with the selling of this book as well! She always seems to amaze me with how giving of a person she is =)!!!
One of my favorite lines:
“Guys may have their porn; me, I’ve got my DILS!”

I don’t like the image.  I think it should be more sophisticated.  Maybe a photograph?  Or something “real.”

Hothead reporting here after unusually long “internal arguments”...
On the website, the platinum blonde is “diluted” by the other gals. On the proposed cover design she is alone… Sort of a representative of DILs as such.
I wonder if the revealingly clad glamorous female, with over-processed tresses, is a fit representative of “DIL-hood”.
You do mention that the “leader of the pack” is a blonde, but I choose to believe she is not “that kind” of blonde.
Could there be a visual that conveys plurality?
I did double, triple, quadruple check the “doyen” bit, and it still comes up “doyenne” for females.
As in “Ralph Lauren is a doyen of fashion”, “Coco Chanel was a doyenne of haute couture”...
Yes, in the name of political correctness there are those who describe Marilyn Monroe as ACTOR. The rest of us mortals still think of that blondE bombshell as ACTRESS. Political correctness be darned… Soon we’ll be told to refer to prison inmates as “guests”...
Regards and best wishes.

Multiple stylized body silhouettes, or just facial line profiles come to view as I gaze into the crystal ball, seeking inspiration for a cover visual… ;-)

This is getting more and more exciting! Best of luck with it! I agree something should go on the cover. I also like the idea of a glowering MIL, but maybe that would be better on the BACK cover?

Sounds great so far!

Hey! It's insane! insane said on April 23, 2012 at 3:55am

I vote…she stays. I would prefer a woman with darker skin and darker hair, but if she represents the main character, stick with her. As far as the clothing and body type, as with all of the avatars on the home page of this site, they exude self-confidence and look comfortable with who they are. I liked the images the moment I clicked here, and felt, “I belong here!”

Hi Ladies! It’s Patricia here:-) The manuscript is being converted into digital format this very minute. It should be ready and online at B&N, Amazon, etc no later than June 10th. Above all, I dedicated this book to all of you here. You have helped create a second home for so many women. I will be pre-releasing the book to the community for a very discounted price prior to launch the ad/marketing campaigns.

Anyway, here is the page the book will be on with the new cover:-)

Disregard some of the grammar. It’s been worked on. Digna, thanks for pointing out Doyen slip up. It’s being corrected too.

Have a wonderful day! For our US friends, enjoy the long weekend break.

I must confess to being far more excited about this than is appropriate. It is still within legal bounds - barely - but my grin could have lit up half the street when I read this update.

May I be amongst the first (and there will be many) to congratulate Patricia and also thank her and Robin for this wonderful sanctuary. The peace of mind that I have achieved through the advice, experiences and care, from the other ladies here, cannot be overstated.

A phrase that is bandied about far too often “life changing”. This place changed my life and I wish that flowery words were enough to convey my appreciation to you both and the ladies of our society. Instead I’ll take those - often far too long - flowery words and write to other ladies who find us, in the hope that something one of us says will provide the insight they need. That moment of clarity where a path through the heartbreak and sheer frustration becomes clear.

So thank you.

The book is being reviewed by Amazon, BN, Apple store, etc. However, I wanted to get it up so the DILS can have a sneak peek and benefit from the discounted price. The actual marketing campaign will happen in two weeks or so. It’s my first Fiction novel so I really hope you enjoy it.  I dedicate it every single one of you.

It’s been a lifelong dream to become a global bestselling digital author. I am not sure if it is possible, but we are going to try..so please download, download, download <3 If Snooki can do it, why can’t I. LOL!!!

You can download from Smashwords or Lulu into almost any Reader you have.

YAY! The book is now available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. If you like the book, please leave a review on Amazon or BN and please share the book with your friends. I am counting social media to get this book out there..god knows there are plenty of us out there in the world who can make this book a bestseller. It’s been such a process, and I think I’ve been nervous to pull the trigger and release it. Like anyone out there who tries to fulfill their passion, failure is a reality. I just don’t want it to be my reality:-) If you don’t like the book, it’s ok too. Just be gentle and remember how much you love the site:)))))) Love you ladies!!! And Robin, I love you so so so much. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have you as my SIL. Patricia
